Liceo delle Scienze Humane Albertina Sanvitale
“Albertina Sanvitale” Secondary School (Human Sciences) is part of the Italian higher education school system. With a total of 1555 students (increasing in the next school year) divided into a main building in the centre of Parma and other three ones in the surrounding area.
The Institute offers a five-year education program, within which it is possible to choose between two different sections: human sciences and socio-economic ones. The focus is generally on the human sciences; in the first programme (LSU) the study of Latin and a foreign language is included, while within the second one (LES) two foreign languages: English and French or English and Spanish) are offered to students. At LSU, the 3.0 programme includes the use, in everyday teaching and in the classroom, of advanced devices and methodologies (skills-based programming, PBL, Flipped Classroom, etc.).
School activities are divided into 4 or 5 hours per day in the two-year period, 5 hours in the three-year period, from Monday to Saturday. The male and female students who attend high school range from 14 to 19 years old. The socio-economic context of the students is medium-low overall, while the percentage of families who declare themselves disadvantaged is nil.
The incidence of students with non-Italian citizenship is approximately 9%; the students are generally well integrated, allowing for a broad cultural comparison within the class groups. The distribution of students enrolled in the 1st year by lower secondary school leaving exam score is completely comparable to the average distribution of the regional and national human sciences high schools. The percentage share of foreign students is similar to that found in the province, but higher than that recorded in the region and in Italy: it can therefore happen that there are children with significant linguistic difficulties. The average number of students per teacher is higher than the reference territories: this indicates that the classes are quite large.
