2nd Gymnasium of Nafpaktos
2nd Gymnasium of Nafpaktos is a junior high school with a long tradition of Education (the school was founded in 1976). The school educates around 180 students, from both rural and urban environments taught by 20 teachers.
Starting from 2012, a variety of activities designed to bring a new and innovative dimension to our school have been performed: cultural, environmental, career and health education. Teachers are encouraged to implement innovative projects related to our students’ interests such as sports, arts, music.
It is found on the west part of the city. The school complex is located on a plot of land of 5,317.82 m2, on Porphyri and Tsara Nafpaktias streets, with a total coverage and construction area of the three-story teaching building of 2,925 m2.
As to facilities, it has a school gym with basketball, volleyball and table tennis equipment. School’s priority, among others, is to cultivate the students’ cultural awareness.
Students are particularly interested in their skills and talents in general and this is easily seen by their enthusiastic reaction to activities already organized as extra-curricular ones. There are teachers who organize school trips to cultural centres, educational trips are also implemented throughout school year along with visits to famous artistic sites close to surrounding area.
There is a school choir participating each year to the annual festival of our district. Each year the school joins both the traditional and modern dance festival and earns a lot of credits by the audience. Students are encouraged to express themselves through arts and in fact there is a great collection of their work exhibited around the school. Students feel very proud to see their paintings adorning the school walls. There is a chess team participating in competition around the area.
There is a number of gifted students who enter STEM competitions and bring back to school significant awards. “Protect Ecosystem and Life” 2020-Ι-C201-KA229-078155-4 is an Erasmus+ project already implemented when six European countries (Turkey, Portugal, Romania, Estonia, Greece, Czech Republic) decided to join hands in playing an active role in the effort of finding solutions.
The main aims while fighting the climate change are: implementing and application of themes into the curriculum, raising climate change and environmental awareness by using different teaching-learning methods, taking individuals out of the virtual platform and support them to become part of cooperation groups, encourage them to look into the topic, to assume responsibility in social projects, to establish awareness cooperation projects with non-governmental organizations, become more and more aware of the problems and bring suggestions as solutions, recognize the needs of professional fields and being able to notice changes, support the teachers during their work and provide the needed materials, assistance through mental health protective pedagogical knowledge, try to cope with depression, self-concern of children due to climate change and its consequences.
“Multiculturalism in the past and today” KA210-SCH-74A610D8 is ERASMUS+ Project to be implemented in the 2 coming years, a small-scale project coordinated by Poland and joined by Italy, as well which aims to the common grounds of culture between the 3 countries.
